I became vegan at the age of 34. That was 43 years ago, upon meeting Gentle World, a non-profit vegan educational organization. Little did I know at the time that this connection was going to change my life forever. I found Gentle World at a time when I was searching for answers to some of the mysteries of life. It felt like I stepped into a new consciousness.

Upon entering their special reality (which at the time was in the countryside of Kentucky) I felt immediately lifted. Within a couple of days I had a deep conversation with Light (Gentle World’s founder) since my curiosity was being awakened. He shared with me the truth of what actually goes on behind the scenes of the holocaust for our animal friends. Well, that was it for me. It was the easiest change I have ever had to make. The examples of everyone in the organization only helped to solidify the move. Everyone was fit, happy, and healthy.

During these decades I've witnessed animal miracles, since Gentle World has saved many animals from all kinds of sad situations, and that has made my commitment even stronger..  To name a few (of probably hundreds) there was Promise the twirling pig who could not stop moving in circles and would have been killed; Capricorn the crippled goat who we made a brace for so he could have some sense of walking again; Rise & Shine the rooster; Free and Easy (two pigeons who were in love) and many dogs who became vegan in our care.

The world is waking up little by little, and more and more plant-based foods are being discovered. This is a glimmer of hope shining through all the darkness. When I sit quietly in nature, I sometimes fantasize about being surrounded by animals running and frolicking free, living as they were meant to be.

Helping to educate the public throughout the decades has given me purpose in life so that perhaps my fantasy can one day become a reality.
